On Tuesday 27th October, between 5:30pm and 7:20pm, in Highlands Village suspects gained entry to a residential property by smashing the rear door. Follow the below advice to make sure your property is secure; While it may feel that your home is more secure behind a high wall or fence, the fact that it cannot be seen from the street could make it a more attractive target for burglars.Ensure your property can be easily seen by neighbours and passers-by by keeping hedges, fences and walls at the front of your property no higher than one metre. This reduces the opportunities for intruders to conceal themselves while attempting to gain access.Clever use of lighting can also help deter burglars. We recommend low-level white lighting that operates from dusk until dawn, particularly in vulnerable, low-visibility areas such as the side and rear of the property. Lights should be positioned at least three metres above ground level and fitted with vandal-resistant casings.Trellis, thorny plants, or suitable anti-climb measures such as plastic spikes can make it more difficult for offenders to climb over fences or gates.Planting prickly or thorny shrubs along boundaries and fence lines can also provide an effective natural barrier and further enhance security.
